he Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is launching a hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in Delhi’s Central Vista area from May 15. This will help implement Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s order to government employees to stay away from vehicles, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal.
It will be a big help in reducing dependency
This initiative aims to provide seamless last-mile connectivity between the Central Secretariat and Seva Tirtha Metro stations and key government offices in the Central Vista area. This initiative is designed to encourage government officials in the capital to travel by metro. This will significantly help both government officials and the general public to use public transport more frequently and reduce their dependence on private vehicles.
Responsible for bus operations
DMRC will be responsible for bus operations, conductors, ticketing, and passenger support, while IOCL will provide drivers and hydrogen fuel. This initiative reflects the Government of India’s commitment to green mobility, adoption of clean energy, and sustainable public transportation. This project is expected to serve as a benchmark for future hydrogen-based transportation systems across the country.
