Developers and Manufacturers Return to Munich for electronica 2026, November 10-13

Every two years, the world of electronics meets at electronica in Munich, Germany. As the world’s leading trade fair in the sector – with a massive exhibition area and attendance numbers – it presents the industry’s entire range of technologies, products, and solutions for electronics development and manufacturing. For electronica 2026, November 10–13, the entire diversity of the electronics industry will fill the Munich Trade Fair Center, with a strong focus on energy efficiency.

Every two years, audioXpress visits the massive electronica show in Munich, Germany. This trade show is an amazing opportunity for meeting the valuable ecosystem of the electronic and related components and solutions industry – a true “general store” for audio developers. This is where the audio and consumer electronics industry can find all the suppliers and all those things needed in electronics and product development projects – from systems and PCB design to semiconductor and components, all the way to test and measurement and manufacturing machinery.

Electronica 2026 will return to the massive Munich Trade Fair Center, with energy efficiency identified as one of the central topics of this year’s event. The organizer, Messe München, confirmed that the 2026 edition will again be positioned around the wider theme of “Empowering the All Electric Society.”

For audio product developers, the topic is relevant even when the discussion is not explicitly about audio. Every modern audio product — whether an active loudspeaker, amplifier, wireless headphone, USB interface, DSP platform, smart speaker, automotive audio module, or networked installation device — depends on decisions about power conversion, embedded processing, thermal behavior, connectivity, standby consumption, sensing, and manufacturing efficiency. The systems being discussed at electronica are part of the technical foundation on which those products are built. The pressure is also being driven by rising electricity prices, regulatory demands, and the growing need for energy-efficient components for systems, power electronics, and connected devices.

Caroline Pannier, Exhibition Director for electronica, describes energy efficiency as “a key requirement for the electronics industry,” with a major focus across industries, from consumer electronics and automotive electronics, to industrial systems and devices. “At electronica, it’s clear that efficient products are in demand today in virtually every sector — from electromechanics and automation to connected industrial applications.”

For audio electronics, efficiency is not only about reducing consumption and battery life, but increasingly about reliability, compliance, and the amount of processing that can be placed at the edge of the system. The technologies represented across the show include power semiconductors and wide-bandgap devices such as SiC and GaN MOSFETs, IGBTs, power modules, and driver ICs; power conversion and drive technology including inverters, DC/DC converters, and bidirectional charging systems; smart energy and storage systems; embedded AI and edge computing; sensors and IoT; thermal management; and electromechanics and connectivity.

The electronica 2026 program also includes a Power Electronics Forum covering wide-bandgap semiconductors, digital power management, and smart energy applications; an IIoT Forum addressing industrial IoT and energy-efficient systems; a Circular Economy Forum; and the electronica Automotive Conference on November 9, 2026, with topics including electromobility, bidirectional charging, and vehicle-to-grid.

As vehicle platforms are becoming electrical, software-defined, sensor-rich environments, audio systems must coexist with increasingly complex power distribution, infotainment, driver-assistance electronics, connectivity, cabin sensing, and energy-management functions.

Electromechanics is another important sector for this trade show, with exhibitors including Harting, Phoenix Contact, Weidmüller, and Arrow Electronics in connection with industrial connectivity, connectors, relays, switches, enclosures, terminals, PCB connectors, and passive components.

electronica 2026 is expected to feature around 3,500 exhibitors from about 60 countries, occupying once again all 18 halls of the Munich exhibition center, together with SEMICON Europa, which will run in parallel in two and a half halls.
